All About Big Dave

When Big Dave speaks to foodservice industry groups nationwide, audiences instantly know he's speaking from experience. For 25 years, he owned and operated Big Dave's Pizza & Subs in Oscoda, Michigan, and as an independent operator, he took on some of the country's largest pizza chains and defeated or dominated them. His stories of about the highs and lows of owning his own business are based on real-world experience only someone who's served in the trenches understands. Two years after Big Dave's was ranked the 25th busiest pizzeria in the USA, he started his consulting, speaking and training career in 1990. Dave is a regular columnist in Pizza Today magazine, and is the author of Big Bucks with Big Dave, Dominating the Delivery Market, The 3 P's, Your Secret to a Successful Restaurant as well as numerous reports and white papers. Big Dave also developed FoodCost Pro, the only software program specifically designed for pizza and Italian restaurants. This program gives operators an iron grip on their biggest expense, foodcost. Dave is also co-founder of Pizza Insight, a weekly info, web based information portal for pizza professionals who want an unfair advantage.

Dave has helped hundreds of foodservice operators achieve their goals and get a life in the past fourteen years. His clients range from start-ups to multinational, multi billion dollar corporations. Dave and a colleague guided a national broad-line foodservice distributor into the world of pizza and increased their sales by a whopping 1751 percent in 13 years. He has been nicknamed "The Pizza Doctor" by his peers for his ability to diagnose, prescribe, treat and cure almost any problem a pizzeria could come down with. Since then he has given over 200 marketing and management seminars and workshops to rave reviews. Word got around that Big Dave was a quality consultant and speaker and more and more people asked him to share the secrets of success, take complex problems and fix them with real world ideas. The demand became so high that he sold Big Dave's Pizza & Subs in 2001 to dedicate all of his time to his clients. Big Dave logs over 80,000 miles a year delivering consulting, staff and management training as well as speaking on relative topics relating to the food service industry.

Dave is the culinary coach of the United States Pizza Team and helped lead his team to a Silver Medal at the World Pizza Championship in Salsamagiorre, Italy in 2003. Also on the international front he guided the opening of Santino's Pizza in the United Arab Emirates. The model Dave created last year has been so successful it's being franchised throughout the Middle East and India.

Dave has accomplished many things in his career. He is a Foodservice Management Professional (FMP) a prestigious credential earned by less than 2% of the 30,000 member National Restaurant Association. He is also the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award, the highest award given by the Michigan Restaurant Association, for lifetime contribution to the industry. He's been a volunteer Firefighter in his community since 1984, and is always there when charities and civic duties need his time, expertise or help. His peers awarded him the Firefighter of the Year honor in his county. When not on the road and living out of a suitcase, Dave lives with his wife Linda, and their four sons in the country in the midst of lakes, rivers, forest and critters.
